In the modern era of age verification, I’m seeing more parents expose themselves for who they are and what they let their kids do.
Parenting used to be giving children toys and then watching them play or even playing with them. Then it turned into sitting in front of TVs, and then it turned into giving them The Phone to watch YouTube on.
That shit turned into Elsagate, shit hit the fan, trust was regained and all’s well. Right?
Well, as it turns out, even after that, parents got even LAZIER and as a consequence, their kids grew up to be phone addicts. And the solution? We’re gonna take a trip back to the past, while also considering the future.
Alcatel, as well as many other vendors, started making smartwatches. The catch? They’re the most basic fucking dumbphones, but also smart!
Smartwatches are commonly associated with watches that don’t just tell time and dates. But these ones have their own SIM, apps, et cetera. There’s another catch, though, and that’s the lack of even the most basic of luxury, including the Snake game. Imagine getting a dumbphone without Snake.
I’ll speak from the Serbian perspective, but I believe other countries are practicing this, where they’ll give a cheap plan (around €5/month) that includes the device so that they can:
- Track their location at all times
- Audio/Video call them (and the other way around)
- Hit the alarm button
- Look at the time
And many others, depending on the model and whatever.
I’m honestly proud. Taking advantage of this simple tech is a better solution than whatever the fuck kind of age verification these companies (ahem, Meta) are trying to peddle on us.
