Audient EVO 4 Review – Holy Moly.

‪What can I say?

Technical stuff

2 physical ins‬, physical outs‬. It also has a loopback pair so it’s 4 inputs and 4 outputs in total, so you can pair up your mic and desktop audio to the loopback inputs and use them in programs like OBS – all done on-device, though it requires a driver to set up if you want to route anything other than the loopback outputs into the loopback inputs.

Drivers are only available on macOS and Windows, though it works with Linux because it doesn’t need much software except for the loopback settings which i don’t think you’ll need‬

‪As for the preamps etc – they’re brilliant. 96kHz/24bit max because they don’t chase numbers (as they’ve stated on their site)‬

‪It’s really nice. It also has an automatic headphone switch so you don’t blast your speakers when you plug them in, ridding you of any unnecessary setup‬ or control.

‪The inputs are mixer-friendly – linkable inputs that don’t have any phase modifications (looking at you, Native Instruments, with you wannabe warmness) so you can increase the gain on both at the same time.

Speaking of which – there’s a tool on the interface that’ll take care of that for you so you don’t clip.‬ Although both of my inputs are on 0 since that’s taken care of by my Mackie Mix8

‪Output amps are STRONG. they BARK and my‬ phone can’t do it justice. They also have digital faders, which means that don’t have misleveling issues that many analogue faders have, so you won’t end up with accidental panning on low amounts unlike what I had with my previous interface

The song is called Ti Eho Na Haso by Anna Vissi

When content is played through it it has a leveling meter, and you can switch the level meter to the inputs if you really wanna look at that, but I doubt it’ll matter much unless you’re trying to tune the levels manually. You also have the ability to fade your headphone outputs between the microphone output for 0-latency monitoring or the system audio output, as can any other interface.

Only complaint that I have (which really isn’t because they have enough reason to justify it) is that it’s too tall. I’d dig a kickstand for it because I can’t really see the levels unless I bring it forward more or stand up but other than that it’s packed with hardware.

Personal experience

I got the EVO Start Recording Bundle which is pretty cool, you get Headphones, a mic and the shock mount for the mic, though you need an adapter for the shock mount if you want to hook it up to a modern stand‬

It has EVEN LESS NOISE than my Komplete Audio 1 which is disappointing (for Native Instruments) but in all seriousness for 200€ it’s absolutely fantastic. You get a whole bundle, plus some really cool software, and nothing that disappoints.

Of course, with an interface comes a DAW. My KA1 came with Ableton Live Lite, Scarletts come with Pro Tools, and this one came with Cubase LE which is strangely PACKED as opposed to the competition’s free DAW choice.
